First PTA Meeting this Thursday 6:30pm on Zoom

Hello Santiago STEAM Magnet PTA Family,

Welcome back to school and to the exciting and ever-changing world of the Santiago STEAM Magnet PTA. We’re in for a unique year, and we are working hard to create interactive programs and activities to continue to engage our families, students and community. In addition, we’re figuring out how to move almost everything online to maintain safety for our teachers, faculty and PTA committee chairs. Please visit our revamped website that is updated with new information and opportunities to be involved with the community.

Our first General PTA Meeting is Thursday, September 3rd at 6:30pm. The meeting is public and we will meet via ZOOM (ZOOM link will be provided through Bloomz later this week). Anyone can attend, but only members in good standing can vote. If you join the meeting, please mute yourself unless called upon, to make it easier for everyone to listen and follow along. Procedures to make a motion and/or vote are outlined on the CA PTA website. Voting will be done by using the voting option in the “participants” section of Zoom. You may open that box, and we will clear it before each vote.

If you’re unfamiliar with PTA meetings, it’s important to be aware that there are a lot of procedural items that need to be presented and voted on by the PTA in order to maintain transparency and our standing as a non-profit. We try to get through those in the beginning of the meeting, but they do take some time. It’s the first meeting of the year and with all the changes to schooling, there will be more business to cover than usual. So bear with us. In the interest of saving time, we will provide the Treasurer’s Reports, June’s Association Minutes, the Calendar and the agenda for the meeting ahead of the meeting. If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact us before the meeting, so committee chairs and board members can prepare responses and roll them into their reports.

On an exciting note, we also discuss and vote on all activities and programs that the PTA will be sponsoring and organizing. If you’re looking to get involved, there are plenty of opportunities. If you would like to join a committee or have access to items, services or donations that can help a program along, please email info@santiagopta.com, and your query will be forwarded to the appropriate committee chair.

This year will look different than any other year in our school’s history, but I think we have an opportunity to work together and make this year a positive and memorable one for the books.

Thank you for your interest and support of the PTA. I hope to see you all in the meeting.
