This year we are combining Red Ribbon and Anti-Bullying week to pledge that we are Stronger Together Against Bullying & Drugs. We have a lot of surprises planned including a spirit week where students can dress up each day, dedication of two Buddy Benches, special guest tipsters each day, and a virtual field trip with the school counselor. Feel free to take time to explore this page which will have information on the week, as well as helpful resources for families.

Buddy Benches: Thanks to funding by the PTA and parent volunteers, we will be presenting 2 Buddy Benches to the school. Buddy Benches are designed to be a place where a child can sit if they feel lonely, left out, or want company. It’s a signal to the other kids to invite them to play or to talk to them. We will be presenting them to the school this week, and encouraging students to use the bench if they need a little help reaching out, and to invite friends to play if they see someone sitting on the bench. Make sure to talk to your child about showing empathy and spreading kindness.
Virtual Field Trip & Demonstration – Meet the Counselor: In this exciting field trip we meet the Santiago STEAM school Counselor Lorena Salcedo. She’s going to tell you what a school counselor does and how to get in touch with her if you need help. You can see the Virtual Field Trip HERE!
Stronger Together Tips of the Day: Each day the students will start off their day with a tip from a special guest. Make sure to ask your child(ren) when you pick them up from school what they learned, and how they’re going to implement the tip of the day.
Take the Pledge: Students will have the opportunity to take the “Stronger Together” pledge with their classmates.
Red Ribbon Bracelet: Students will be given a red ribbon week bracelet. Wear it all week for freebies and discounts. Details at the bottom of the page.
Spirit Button: Everyone who participates this week will earn a Good Choices Spirit Button.

Red Ribbon Week – The History:
National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by a handful of concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention. Since its founding thirty years ago, NFP has devoted its efforts to the well-being of youth. Today, NFP is a national leader in drug prevention education & advocacy. Our mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.
AWARENESS – NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
Wear your Red Ribbon Bracelet and get REWARDED! – Wear your red ribbon bracelet and you can receive a free donut, free 8 count chicken nuggets, discounted slush, free drink, free slurpee, discounted pizza, and free small fry. Bracelets will be handed out on Monday, October 25th.
