Welcome to Santiago STEAM Magnet PTA!!!
Hello Santiago STEAM Families,
Fall is in the air and the PTA programs and activities keep going!
Volunteers already at work:
We have already accomplished so much, yet have so much more to do. We’ve started on the very long process to implement a multiphase garden project. Volunteers came out in high 90, low 100 degree temperatures to move piles of dirt to help level the garden, and to cut and move stumps to the school. Back to school packets were assembled. Back to school decorations, posters, and chalking was completed to welcome students. We’ve finished our first round of spirit wear, which will be delivered by October 4-8th, and already launched our first Virtual Field Trip & Demonstration. The PTA website and social media platforms have been consistently updated with information. All in all, our community has stepped up and been engaged! If you would like to see our ever growing photo album and thank you page, please check it out here: https://santiagopta.com/2021/08/28/pta-volunteers-working-hard/
Thank you so much to all the students, families and friends who donated and helped our students pay their kindness forward! We raised $20,649 and completed 549 Acts of Kindness!!! Truly incredible! Our students worked so hard that they achieved every single school wide goal. All students will receive a Santiago STEAM sticker printed by Solar Art and a Santiago Glow Bracelet. Mr. Johnston will not only DRESS LIKE A CHICKEN, but he is going to do the CHICKEN DANCE!!! All students who raised $100 or more will get to both SILLY STRING and DANCE with Mr. Johnston. A full list of rewards can be found here: https://santiagopta.com/2021/08/23/raise-craze-fundraising-through-kindness-2021/

Scarecrows for STEAM:
We’re bringing back the popular fall contest Scarecrows for STEAM for its second year! This is a great opportunity to go through your home to turn your discarded items and old clothes into a family fun activity building a Scarecrow for STEAM. Students will have the option to enter twice. The first opportunity is in their grade level category which includes drawings or small crafts/models of scarecrows. Students must complete these entries by themselves. The second chance to enter is the traditional scarecrow category that can be done as a family or a group. Adults can be a part of the team and awesome-it-up, but the student(s) should be involved throughout the process.
We are awarding microscope kits to 3 Grade Level winners! The winning Traditional Scarecrow Team will win a Coding Robot! The best part is that our students are the judges this year. All students will have the opportunity to pick their favorites in each category on October 28th, and submit their votes. Please go to our Scarecrows page for more information: https://santiagopta.com/2021/09/21/scarecrows-for-steam-2021/
The yearbook purchase window is open! Purchase your yearbook for $25 with our Santiago PTA PayPal Form at http://bit.ly/santiagopaypal. Complete the Form with your order information and then make a “Friends and Family” Paypal payment. More details at santiagopta.com
Stronger Together Against Bullying and Drugs:
This year we are combining Red Ribbon and Anti-Bullying week to pledge that we are Stronger Together Against Bullying & Drugs. We have a lot of surprises planned including a spirit week where students can dress up each day, dedication of two Buddy Benches, special guest tipsters each day, and a virtual field trip with the school counselor. Make sure you talk to your child(ren) each day about what they learned and how they can make empathetic and smart choices.
Garden & Outdoor Learning Projects:
The PTA is working with the school on a multiphase garden and outdoor learning spaces. This is a project that will take years to complete, but we need to work on one step at a time. Several projects are being worked on now, but there are many more projects coming up. Some of the jobs are glamorous, and some are just throwing in some elbow grease and muscle power and helping us get things done. If you have muscles and love to help your child’s experience get better by improving the school, please reach out to the garden club at SantiagoSteamGarden@gmail.com Bonus points if you have a truck and can occasionally help us move items from a second location to the school.
This is another great way to get involved. Dad’s Club has been an invaluable resource when we need things built, items need fixed, muscles need to lift, push or pull, trucks need to be loaded, and help is generally needed. If you would like to throw your skills into the mix, please sign up here: https://santiagopta.com/2021/07/20/learn-more-about-dads-club/
The first spirit wear window closed, and items are expected to be delivered to the school October 4th-8th. A second window will open in November and feature our 50th Anniversary Design at a low cost to families.
Thank you everyone for your support and interest in the PTA. Without dedicated volunteers and a community that cares, none of this would be possible.
