Virtual Field Trip & Demonstration: Buddy Benches by the PTA

Santiago STEAM Magnet is proud to present our Virtual Field Trips and (Cool) Demonstrations program. At Santiago STEAM, our students are asked to think outside of the box to solve problems and innovate solutions. Our students are preparing to be leaders in their community and to push boundaries in their future endeavors. Here, local businesses are working with our PTA to bring the future of STEAM education to a reality, by providing a behind the scene’s look into exciting careers that can be gained with the aid of a STEAM education.

This next field trip is to learn about the new Buddy Benches on the Santiago STEAM Magnet Elementary School campus!

Buddy benches are places where students can practice empathy and and learn to be inclusive. This means some kids might be having a quieter day, and they might not feel up to asking someone to play. Or maybe a student has a great idea for a game, but wants to find someone to join them.

The buddy benches are for everyone to find new friends and get to know more people at school. At Santiago STEAM we pride ourselves on practicing empathy, (trying to understand how someone else is feeling), and caring about everyone in our community. Which is why we are Santiago Proud!

Watch the PTA’s Virtual Field Trip & Demonstration to learn more about the buddy benches!

Respond to the Field Trip:

After finishing your virtual field trip to learn about our new buddy benches, we want to know what you think about the benches and how you’re going to use them. What did you learn about the STEAM skills needed to create the benches? How can buddy benches make our school better? Share what you learned in a video, with a note or by drawing a picture. You can even write a thank you letter to the PTA for putting together this field trip.  All students who participate and respond to virtual field trips will get a participation button.
