Hello Santiago Families,

There are essentially two months of school left this year, and the PTA is working hard to fill the time with contests, events, programs, and so many opportunities to get involved. Below you will find the PTA calendar, followed by more information on each event/program/contest and how to get involved or volunteer.

It’s a lot of information, but if you have been wanting to get back on campus and be a part of the community, now is your chance! Our community is only as strong as the parents and family members who support us. Please use this post as a reference on how to get involved. We would love all the help we can get!

Also, I strongly suggest you bookmark our website where you can always find updated information (santiagopta.com), and join our social media pages to get updates as more information becomes available. 50th Anniversary Festival & Jogathon – May 21, 4-7pm*

This will be the biggest end of the year party in the history of Santiago. We’ll be honoring the last 50 years of Santiago with photo displays, themed attractions and special guests. As well as taking an in depth look at our future with dedications, displays, a garden project, and a journey up the STEAM into the Future path. Plus, we’ll be running several Jogathon heats, jamming with a DJ, enjoying the snack bar and playing games. Fun is sure to be had by all, and we hope that everyone signs up for a volunteer shift to help make this happen. Email president@santiagopta.com if you would like to volunteer.

*STEAM Into the Future Path Need Technology Booth Volunteers – Will also need volunteers to help run booths day of event

We need 5 families to volunteer to create one station each. A science station, technology station, engineering station, art station and math station. Each station will celebrate their theme by decorating and creating a simple activity or demonstration based on their theme. This should be fun and simple to reinforce the wonders of a STEAM education to our students and visitors. If you are interested, please email president@santiagopta.com

*Silent Auction

We are looking for a parent from each classroom to step up to organize a classroom basket for the silent auction. These baskets can be as simple or extravagant as you like. The idea is to come up with a theme for the basket (movie night, fitness, wellness, games, etc) and then have as many parents from the class as possible, donate an item to the basket. We will do classroom sign ups in the spring, but if you already know this is something you can take care of, please reach out to us and let us know at info@santiagopta.com

*Kid Friendly DJ Wanted – BOOKED Soul-Cal Entertainment

PTA is searching for a DJ from our community to help out with the 50th Anniversary Festival & Jogathon. This person will need to bring their own equipment, play fun music from the past 5 decades and today, help introduce announcements and special speakers, and keep the energy up. All songs and language should be kid friendly. DJ services will be needed from 4-7pm on Saturday, May 21st, and will be set up outdoors. We have a limited budget to cover the DJ’s time and use of equipment. Email: info@santiagopta.com  BOOKED Soul-Cal Entertainment

*Snack Bar

We have someone doing most of the shopping for this, but she can’t commit to the day-of event requirements. So we’ll need someone to pick it up as the lead person picking up the pizza order and/or ice, and setting up everything. Also coordinating with the other volunteers to make sure everything is ready to go. If you would like to help organize/run the snack bar, please email info@santiagopta.com

*Ticket Sales – Volunteer Found

Need someone to bundle tickets into pre-counted bundles for easy distribution. Email info@santiagopta.com if you can help. Volunteer Found

*Games Lead(s)

We have several games for the festival that need to be set up and prepped before the event begins and then packed up at the end of the event. We’re hoping to get high school volunteers to help run the games, but we need a volunteer or two to help run each volunteer through the games so they can do it on their own. If interested, please email info@santiagopta.com and we’ll give you a run down of each game and any work that needs to be done ahead of time like blowing up small balloons or setting up fish bowls with little decorations. All relatively simple, but we still need help getting them ready.

*Day of Volunteers: All 1.5hr shifts

  • Set up – 20 Volunteers Needed
  • Clean up – 20 Volunteers Needed
  • Game stations – 12 volunteers

  • STEAM Into the Future Path – 5 volunteers (so the creators of the booth can enjoy the festival as well)
  • Bloomz signup will be posted closer to the event for these volunteer slots

Angel Stadium – Night Out at the Ballpark – May 26, 6:28PM

We have been invited to do a special fundraiser with Angel Stadium, that will also be a great community night out. Buy tickets to the Angels vs. Blue Jays on May 26th at 6:38PM through the provided Santiago LINK. Tickets have been discounted to $15, and with every ticket purchased, $6 will be donated back to the PTA.

When you click on the link, there are several sections to choose from. We encourage Santiago Families to first get tickets from the “Field Box” section so we can all sit together, but of course, you are welcome to choose another selection if you wish.

Get tickets. Mark your calendars. Wear your Santiago steam wear, and we’ll see you at the ballpark! Link: https://fevo.me/santiagosteam

Garden Club

Garden Club is working on a multi-phase multi-year project to transform the outdoor garden spaces into areas that align with our PBL units, and create outdoor learning spaces. If you would like to be a part of this amazing community of parent volunteers, please email santiagosteamgarden@gmail.com and let them know you would like to join. This is an ongoing club that will continue to have plenty of opportunities to get involved and volunteer. You may also follow the journey on instagram @santiagosteamgarden

Again, I realize this is a lot of information, but there really are so many ways to get involved. We hope parents are as excited as we are to be back on campus and celebrate Santiago STEAM Magnet students, teachers, staff and community this Spring! Please reach out if you see a volunteer job that looks right for you. The only way programs move forward is if the community rallies around and pushes them forward. Thank you all for being a part of our team!
